kindergarten weekly update

Math Workshop

This week, we will be working on “Unit 7: How Many Noses? How Many Eyes?”. The focus of this unit is learning to identify different aspects of data and objects; collecting, sorting, and representing date; and using data to solve problems.

This week we will:

  • play a collecting game with pattern blocks

  • sort and represent lunch food data

  • take a survey and collect the data

  • and look at how many students are in the classroom and how that number can be represented

Skills Block

This week we will practice rhyming different words and writing them, practicing spelling and writing high frequency words, tapping out words and write them, reading different poems and short stories, and writing short sentences with our high frequency words. Our students have also been introduced poems that do not rhyme! So far, we have learned the following high frequency words: and, he, I, in, a, if, is, it, on, the, you, see, up, to, do, at, his, was, or, for, has, be, by, with, will, & are. This week we will introduce three mystery words: “have”, “from”, and “of”.

Expedition

This week students will present all of their hard work pertaining to their community workers on Exhibition Night (Wednesday, March 27th)!! Students are eager to share their knowledge about what a community is, how their worker helps within a community, and what tools they need to successfully do their job!

Class Meeting Topic

In the class meeting this week, students practiced their presentation skills and using a strong speaker voice by sharing their community worker tools with the class. Our students had to tell the class what their community worker was, what tools they had, and what the tools are used for to help them with their job.
