Divide and conquer, that’s what they did. The task presented to the classes was to create project groups for their Journey to the Center of The Earth. With minimal suggestions, they brainstormed and decided to split into core classes and then to split again into comic strip groups and writing groups. There were definitely some mixed opinions regarding who decided to group up and feedback was given by their peers as to why some students probably should not be in the same group. There were also students that themselves recognized what would not be a good group to be in and chose another group instead. When group numbers became an issue, students volunteered to switch groups to make the numbers even. Regardless of the outcomes, we were pleased to see that they made decisions themselves, voiced their opinions, and took initiative.
Not bad for 11-12 year olds!
