“The purpose of life, after all, is to live it,
to taste experience to the utmost,
to reach out eagerly and without fear
for newer and richer experience.” -Eleanor Roosevelt
Brrr! It has been very interesting having ALL the seasons in a week, but, as always, we’re rolling with it - fresh air and sunshine on our bones anytime we can!
Crew this week was tons of fun! The Hemlocks did service with Ms. Marin and played a challenging cooperative game; the Apples made some tasty, sweet treats; the Oaks created festive holiday hats; and the Cedars made their own knitting needles! Check out our crew page for updates and pictures soon to come :)
We've been looking through our list of hero nominees in class in preparation for choosing heroes on Friday. For homework, we have encouraged the kids to take a look at our website and read the bios in more depth. The list includes artists, educators, healers, activists, and advocates of social justice, children’s health and protection, environmentalism, and animal rights. We've been talking about advocacy, activism, and social justice in class, and the kids have some amazing thoughts about what creates positive change in our communities and in the world! On Friday morning, we'll gather as a third grade community and use the choices they made in their homework to figure out which student will interview which hero.
The kids are excited about the play we're going to see at ACT next week, especially since several of them participate in classes and plays there themselves! A couple of drivers have had to change their plans, so we still need 5 car spaces for kids on that trip (next Wednesday, 2/17). We also still need bus chaperones for the Hemlock and Apple crews, and 6 car spaces (probably 2 cars) for the Cedar crew on Monument Walk day (Tuesday, 2/23). We appreciate it!
Many of our third graders have undertaken the challenge of our annual ECCS Spelling Contest. They are proving to be excellent candidates! Our optional homeroom spelling contests will happen after the Monument Walk, on Wednesday the 24th and Thursday the 25th, and the top two spellers from each homeroom will go on to challenge Ms. Cat and the rest of the staff team on Tuesday, March 8th. Good luck to all!
Curiously and courageously yours,
The Third Grade Team
