“Another glorious day, the air as delicious to the lungs as nectar to the tongue.”
― John Muir
Yesterday was a wonderful day in Nature's neighborhood! Coleman Boundary and the Big Ivy River area treated us to a real show. We were greeted by a forest filled with leaves budding on deciduous trees, evergreen trees already showing their dark needles, a broadleaf Rhododendron shrubs with their thick green leaves and buds. We hiked up a bit to our creek crossing, which was no problem for these confident kids! The silent buddy hike was challenging and rocky, but ended in laughter and celebration at the rock face! The kids did an amazing job in taking care of their bodies and each others' spirits as they persevered with complaint. As we sketched and explored the area, we worked on identifying plants and flowers including: Chickweed, Trillium, Fiddlehead Fern, Partridge Berry, and more! It was an incredible display. On the way down, we enjoyed a wade in the creek and playtime on it's moss and sunshine covered river rocks. We only had 2 kids go down in a full body dip! We thank our intrepid drivers for adventuring with us. You are appreciated!
Today we had a wonderful guest teacher, Ms. Brandi, a student from UNCA. She gave us lots of information about plant systems, invasive, and native plants, and jobs in the Biology field.
